We have been routinely trapping flies in the area and are still in the process of determining their breeding source. We are currently working with the nursery owner about his composting practices. We hope to have this issue resolved within the next few weeks and will be consulting with both State and UC health officials who specialize in fly control to assist the District in reducing the number of flies in the area.
Until this issue is resolved the District will continue to apply EPA registered control products used to kill adult flies in the area and will increase the number of adult fly traps around the park in an effort to intercept the flies before they reach Rancho Garcia. These traps will be serviced weekly.
For further questions regarding this matter please contact the District office at 760-342-8287. -

We have found that the nursery is a source of flies. We have advised the owner on practices that will decrease the potential for fly breeding. We are continuing to trap flies in the area to determine if this change in practices alleviates the problem. Twenty new, large traps were set on August 10 along the south side of the property. For further questions regarding this issue, please contact the Coachella Valley Mosquito and Vector Control District at 760-342-8287.
