2013-09-11 - Smoke coming out from WEI

Description
Around 7:10am, 09-11-2013, black smoke was seen coming out from inside the dirt piles at WEI. No known report exists with the Fire Station in Mecca. Pictures submitted during the Mecca Community Council meeting at 6:00pm to PCD staff. Claudia Figueroa (Report submitted by E. Guevara)

Called Riverside County Fire Station #40 at 4 PM. They said they would go out to WEI and take a look, Also alerted USEPA and DTSC to this Report.

WEI and tribal representatives attended the Task Force meeting on 9/18/13 and explained that the smoke reported was from the start-up of a new green waste incineration device the company is now employing. They explained that after this device reaches proper operating temperatures, it burns very efficiently with little to no visible smoke.
