Road being damaged by continual standing water on 66th & Date Palm
Location: 66th Avenue & Date Palm Avenue, Mecca, CA 92254, USA
Description
A varying amount of water is constantly seen on the corner of 66th and Date Palm Ave in Mecca. The water can be seen day and/or night, and the size of the pond varies, being more noticeable in the mornings. It does not come from rain as someone initially suggested. The issue had been going on for weeks, maybe months now, and the road is starting to get damaged because of the water. May not be a source of vector-related issues but given the drought state-wide it would be good to know if it is just water table water coming up to the surface, or water being wasted. E. Guevara

Our staff inspected the area on Thursday, March 20, and we did not find mosquito larvae in any of the water. We will continue to monitor for mosquito breeding. For more information, please visit our website www.cvmvcd.org or call 760.342.8287.

Spoke to Riverside County and CVWD staff this morning who promised to follow-up and determine where water is coming from. I will file another comment when I know more.

As of today at 8:40 am PST, three people were working at the site, making some repairs/patching. I could not see any logos/emblems on the vehicles.

Monitoring during early morning and late evening over a week by now shows that while water is still present at the site, the magnitude of the problem has decreased significantly.
